Ankara: At least five paramilitary troops were killed and five villagers injured in an ambush at a security checkpoint in southern Thailand late Wednesday, the army said. The incident unfolded in Ra-ngae district of Narathiwat province when six attackers dressed in black launched an assault on the checkpoint, which was operated by a Ranger Company.

According to Anadolu Agency, the assailants opened fire and hurled pipe bombs at the location, leading to the immediate death of the five personnel on duty. Despite the chaos, the attackers managed to escape the scene, leaving emergency teams to transport the injured villagers to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In response, security personnel quickly sealed off the checkpoint and the surrounding area. Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this attack, as authorities have launched a comprehensive operation to track down the perpetrators.
