Ankara: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Sunday that Lebanon is looking to become an 'active' partner with Iraq in the development of regional projects. These initiatives are expected to open new investment opportunities and support sustainable growth in both countries.

According to Anadolu Agency, Salam shared these remarks on the US social media platform X after a visit to Iraq with a government delegation. During the visit, he held meetings with Iraqi President Nizar Amidi and Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Baghdad. Salam emphasized Lebanon's determination to enhance strategic connectivity and integration projects across the region, focusing on sectors such as energy, telecommunications, and transport.

Salam highlighted that such projects would enable regional countries to capitalize on opportunities emerging from ongoing transformations. He stressed that economic cooperation among regional countries is a crucial pillar for strength, stability, and shared prosperity, especially when it is based on a vision that achieves mutual benefits.

He further stated that Lebanon is eager to collaborate closely with Iraq in shaping these regional initiatives, supporting development and sustainable growth in both nations. The discussions build upon prior agreements between Baghdad and Beirut. Notably, on July 11, 2023, the two countries signed an agreement for Iraq to supply Lebanon with the necessary fuel to operate its power plants. This agreement is part of continuous bilateral efforts to bolster economic stability and development in the region.
