Beirut: A senior Iranian lawmaker warned Sunday that Ukraine could face retaliation after a deadly drone strike on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, stressing that any attack on Iran would have consequences. Ebrahim Azizi, the head of parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, emphasized in a post on the US social media platform X that actions against Iran come with repercussions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Azizi stated that the United States and Israel are well aware that 'any attack on Iran always comes with a cost, and that remains true today.' He further noted that 'Ukraine, too, may soon come to understand that Iran does not let actions go unanswered.' Azizi warned that the list of those who have miscalculated continues to grow.

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel, which resulted in the death of a sailor, as a violation of the UN Charter, asserting that such actions 'cannot go unanswered.'

The situation escalated on Saturday when Iran summoned Ukraine's charge d'affaires in Tehran to protest the Ukrainian military's attack in the Caspian Sea. The incident not only claimed the life of one sailor but also injured another, prompting Iran's call for accountability.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on the other hand, declared on X that Ukraine had achieved 'very strong results' with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea. He mentioned that the targets included 'vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran, as well as a warship,' highlighting Ukraine's strategic military actions in the region.
