In a Sky News interview, Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine's enhanced domestic weapons production, including drones and missiles, and the execution of long-range strikes inside Russia to exert pressure on Moscow. However, he emphasized that despite these advancements, Ukraine's strength is insufficient to completely deter Putin.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine's campaign of deep strikes aims to extend the war's impact to Russia, compelling Moscow to feel its consequences. He noted that these operations have disrupted Russian fuel supplies and logistics, thereby increasing pressure on the Kremlin. The Ukrainian leader underscored the importance of international support, urging for tighter sanctions and additional air defense systems.
Zelenskyy warned of potential Russian military mobilization following regional elections in September, with intelligence reports suggesting Russia could mobilize between 300,000 and 500,000 additional troops. Prior to a scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump, Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine's urgent need for more Patriot air defense systems and interceptor missiles, highlighting that US focus has shifted to the Middle East.
Zelenskyy also revealed that Trump agreed to permit Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles under license, though he acknowledged bureaucratic hurdles could delay production. Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron pledged support for the licensed production of Aster air defense systems. Discussing his rapport with Trump, Zelenskyy expressed optimism for improved relations.
On the international front, Zelenskyy cautioned against Russia's deepening military ties with North Korea, Iran, and China. He claimed North Korea might send 30,000 troops to Russia, Iran could supply more missiles, and China has increased cooperation in satellite technologies.
