Beirut: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has declared that he will remain in the country even if the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) loses the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are anticipated to occur in October or November. This statement comes amidst his reiterated plans to resign and reports of having received death threats.

According to Anadolu Agency, Vucic, in an interview with a Serbian television broadcaster, discussed the forthcoming electoral timetable following his previous announcement of plans to resign. He mentioned that the parliamentary elections are expected to be scheduled for October or November, with a potential presidential election following in December or February of the next year.

Vucic expressed that the SNS, a party he formerly led, is set to participate in the elections with a younger team. He stated, "I am not afraid. Of course, the SNS could lose the election, that is a possibility. But even if we lose, I will not leave my country."

In addition to his electoral plans, Vucic shared a video on social media that depicted a man brandishing a knife and issuing threats against him. He acknowledged receiving death threats but conveyed that he did not feel endangered.

Vucic's political future has been a topic of discussion since June 11, when he revealed considerations to resign from the presidency to become the SNS's candidate for prime minister. On June 27, he further announced his intention to formally submit his resignation within a few weeks. It is anticipated that Vucic will announce the date of the parliamentary elections before officially stepping down.
