Ankara: Trkiye and Iraq engaged in discussions to explore the expansion of their cooperation in the defense industry, as revealed by Haluk Gorgun, head of Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretariat.

According to Anadolu Agency, Gorgun hosted Maj. Gen. Abdulamir Kamil Al-Shammari, director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, along with his delegation, at the secretariat's headquarters in Ankara. The discussions centered on identifying potential areas for collaboration in the defense sector between the two nations, as noted by Gorgun on the US social media platform X.

Gorgun expressed gratitude to Al-Shammari and the Iraqi delegation for their visit. The meeting signifies a step forward in strengthening defense ties between the countries, laying the groundwork for future cooperative efforts.

In a related development, Ahmet Akyol, CEO of Turkish defense firm Aselsan, stated that he also hosted Al-Shammari at Aselsan's facilities. Akyol highlighted that they reviewed technologies developed for the modern battlefield and discussed potential cooperation opportunities. He emphasized Aselsan's commitment to remaining a reliable partner in the global defense industry.
