Ankara: Iraq's presidency on Wednesday condemned US-Saudi airstrikes targeting sites belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), calling attacks on official security institutions a violation of international law. The statement came after the PMF reported at least 20 of its members were killed and 32 others injured in overnight strikes that targeted the group's headquarters in several provinces.

According to Anadolu Agency, the presidency emphasized that targeting official security institutions contradicts the rules of international law and the UN Charter. The statement reiterated Iraq's rejection of using its territory as a base for attacks on neighboring countries or for settling regional and international disputes. This stance, the statement noted, is rooted in Iraq's commitment to principles of good neighborliness, respect for state sovereignty, and noninterference in internal affairs.

The Iraqi presidency called on all parties to respect Iraq's sovereignty and to avoid actions that could undermine the country's security and stability. It stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve regional crises and prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that US and Saudi forces conducted joint precision strikes against targets linked to Iranian-aligned groups in Iraq. The operation was described as targeting sites connected to attacks on US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. Saudi Arabia claimed the strikes were an act of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, following attacks launched from Iraqi territory against its petroleum facilities, and warned of further military action if Iran-backed groups continued their attacks.
