Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Wednesday with Khalil al-Hayya, the newly elected head of Hamas' Political Bureau, and a Hamas delegation, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources. The meeting marked an important diplomatic engagement between Trkiye and the political leadership of Hamas.

According to Anadolu Agency, the sources indicated that Fidan extended his congratulations to al-Hayya on his recent appointment. During their discussions, al-Hayya provided an overview of the current situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. He expressed concerns over the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, intensifying what he described as illegal settlement activities and attacks on sacred sites in Jerusalem.

Al-Hayya emphasized Hamas' commitment to a constructive approach in peace negotiations and shared updates on ongoing efforts toward Palestinian reconciliation. Fidan, in response, reaffirmed Trkiye's unwavering support for what he termed the "just cause" of the Palestinians, pledging continued advocacy on international platforms.

Further, according to the sources, Fidan highlighted Trkiye's endeavors to keep attention on the actions of the Netanyahu government in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the assaults on holy sites, within the international community. He assured that Ankara remains committed to enhancing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Additionally, Fidan expressed Trkiye's ongoing support for the Gaza peace process and acknowledged the significant role Hamas has played in these efforts.
