Islamabad: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have expressed their support for Jordan's proposal to convene a meeting of Arab and Islamic nations to address the escalating situation in Palestine, with a particular focus on occupied East Jerusalem, as confirmed by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, this announcement followed a telephone conversation between Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. During the call, the two foreign ministers discussed regional and international developments, including the situation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The ministry further stated that both sides have endorsed Jordan's initiative to unite Arab and Islamic countries to deliberate on the Palestinian situation, particularly in occupied East Jerusalem. They have agreed to maintain close communication on regional matters.
In a separate development, Foreign Minister Dar also engaged in a telephone discussion with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan. The focus of their conversation was on regional and international developments, including the ongoing situation in Palestine and occupied East Jerusalem, as reported by the ministry.
Currently, Israeli forces are conducting near-daily military operations across the occupied West Bank, often involving arrests and attacks against Palestinians and their properties. This escalation follows intensified Israeli military actions and occupier attacks across the West Bank since the onset of Israel's war on Gaza in October 2023.
Official Palestinian figures indicate that at least 1,182 Palestinians have been killed, approximately 13,000 injured, and nearly 24,000 arrested in the occupied West Bank during this period. The frequency of Israeli raids and occupier violence has increased further after a recent incident in the town of Tell, near Nablus, where four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed during clashes involving Israeli occupiers, Palestinian residents, and the Israeli army.
