Ankara: The US Senate's Judiciary Committee has delayed the advancement of Todd Blanche's nomination for attorney general, which was initially set for Thursday. This postponement interrupts Republican plans to confirm Blanche before the August recess, as reported by Politico on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the delay originates from Republican Senator John Cornyn's demand for revisions to a contested settlement agreement between President Donald Trump and the Internal Revenue Service. Cornyn noted that he had provided the Justice Department with specific amendments, but no consensus was reached ahead of the planned vote.

Cornyn remarked, 'We actually sent them a red-line strikeout of what we need, and they just need to make a decision,' emphasizing his intention to facilitate the process. A single opposing Republican vote on the committee could impede Blanche's nomination. Senator Thom Tillis expressed support for Cornyn, and a meeting with Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley did not resolve the disagreement.

Tillis stated, 'We made it clear that we need the language to move forward with the markup.' The vote could be rescheduled if an agreement is achieved, but the delay threatens Blanche's confirmation before the Senate recess.

A Department of Justice official indicated that the department had submitted 'new language' and is 'in discussion' with the senators involved. A spokesperson for Grassley commented, 'Chairman Grassley works to set President Trump's nominees up for success in committee, not failure,' noting that Thursday's markup was postponed while efforts persist to garner sufficient backing for Blanche's nomination.
