Yerevan: Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that his government held its final meeting before resigning, as part of the constitutional procedure following the formation of the country's ninth convocation of parliament after the June election.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pashinyan stated after a Cabinet meeting that the resignation will take place on Sunday. This move is in line with the country's constitutional requirements. Following the resignation, President Vahagn Khachaturyan is expected to appoint the candidate selected by the parliamentary majority as the new prime minister.

"This is the last time we meet in this composition," Pashinyan remarked, noting that some Cabinet members will transition to new roles as members of the legislature.

The parliamentary election, held on June 7, aimed to establish the members of Armenia's ninth convocation of the National Assembly. Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party secured 49.74% of the vote. In contrast, the Strong Armenia party, led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, obtained 23.27%, while the Armenia Alliance of former President Robert Kocharyan received 9.9%.

Approximately 1.47 million of Armenia's 2.5 million eligible voters participated in the election, casting their votes at 2,005 polling stations across the nation, marking a voter turnout of about 59%. The election featured participation from sixteen political parties and two political alliances.
