Cairo: Egypt announced that investigations are ongoing following an incident involving two vessels at Damietta Port, aiming to identify those responsible for the attack.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over 'inaccurate and false reports' circulated by some foreign media regarding the incident. The ministry emphasized that investigations are still in progress to fully understand the circumstances and identify the responsible parties.

The ministry also appealed to international media and correspondents to verify information related to Egyptian matters and the incident, urging reliance on official sources for accurate reporting.

In a related development, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi highlighted the ongoing investigation into the drone attack on two gas vessels at the port. He called for regional de-escalation to avoid further deterioration of the security situation.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, was initially reported by Egypt's Petroleum Ministry as a fire aboard the vessels. However, British maritime security firm Ambrey later identified the incident as a drone attack targeting a US-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged floating liquefied natural gas storage facility.

In response to questions about the attack, US President Donald Trump stated that the US would respond 'very strongly' to Iran, highlighting the potential international ramifications of the incident.
