Washington: President Donald Trump on Monday signaled that a "massive escalation" against Iran remains an option, as he declined to disclose the next steps in the ongoing negotiations with the nation. In a press briefing at the White House, Trump suggested that the United States holds the capacity for significant military action if deemed necessary.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed the US's ability to pursue such a military escalation, saying, "Well, we have that certain ability if we want to do that," and added, "Yeah, you'll find out." The president did not elaborate on what would transpire following the recent round of negotiations, which he had previously labeled as Iran's "last chance" before potential military action.

Trump also mentioned plans to demand financial reparations from Iran, stating, "If there's damages to be paid, I think Iran should pay those damages," in reference to alleged damages caused by Iran over a 50-year span.

Turning his attention to the critical Strait of Hormuz, Trump assured that the strategic waterway is currently "open" under the control of the United States Navy. He described the US Navy's presence as a "steel wall," allowing access only to select entities while restricting Iranian entry. Despite acknowledging the possibility of Iranian interference with shipping, Trump asserted that US forces have effectively cleared the strait of mines. "We control the strait 100%," he stated, adding that while Iran could "make trouble," its financial constraints limit its capacity for sustained disruption.
