Tehran: Mohammad Mokhber, a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, stated Thursday that the ongoing war could shift into an offensive phase if Tehran's conditions remain unfulfilled, suggesting that such a move would have significant implications for global power structures.
According to Anadolu Agency, Mokhber emphasized in a post on the US social media platform X that the Supreme Leader's strategy envisions an offensive approach if Iran's demands are not acknowledged. He argued that any failure by the United States to protect its Gulf allies would highlight the limitations of Washington's security assurances.
Mokhber further proposed that the most enduring solution for a new regional order would be the establishment of the Hormuz economic-security mechanism, which would operate independently of US military guarantees.
In a related statement, Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, cautioned regional countries against depending on what he termed 'the enemies of Islam.' He warned that such reliance could jeopardize their sovereignty and reduce their national influence. Azizi stressed that regional instability attributed to foreign influence would provoke a decisive response from Iran, as noted in his post on X.
These statements emerged amid continuing Iran-Oman discussions concerning new navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz following the recent Iran-US conflict. Tehran is advocating for the Hormuz mechanism as a blueprint for managing security and commercial navigation in this crucial waterway.
Earlier in the day, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters dismissed US assertions that it had guaranteed freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, labeling them as 'baseless lies.' The military command, through a statement broadcasted by state media IRIB, maintained that the strait is 'under the full management and control' of Iran and insisted that no commercial vessel or oil tanker could safely pass through without the oversight and authorization of the Iranian armed forces.
