Cairo: Palestinian group Hamas announced that its recent talks in Egypt are focused on briefing mediators about Israel’s reported violations and ensuring Tel Aviv’s adherence to the Gaza roadmap. Spokesman Hazem Qassem emphasized that these meetings are part of Hamas’s ongoing diplomatic efforts with mediators to address these issues.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meetings in Egypt are set within the broader context of communication and diplomatic outreach. Qassem indicated that the aim is to inform mediators of the violations by the Israeli occupation and to ensure compliance with the agreed-upon roadmap with the Board of Peace.
A high-level Hamas delegation, led by group chief Khalil al-Hayya, is currently in Cairo to engage with Egyptian officials. The discussions are expected to focus on efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, as detailed by a Hamas source.
In October 2023, the Israeli military launched a major offensive in the Gaza Strip, resulting in significant casualties, with over 73,000 killed and more than 174,000 injured. Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since October 2025, continued military actions have led to additional casualties, with at least 1,260 killed and over 4,100 injured, as reported by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
