Israeli Army Gears Up for Extended Conflict in Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

Jerusalem: The Israeli army is preparing for a potential multi-day escalation in Lebanon as it continues its military operations in the southern regions of the country, according to reports from Israeli media on Sunday evening. The ongoing conflict underscores a period of heightened tensions between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israel's Channel 12 reported that the Israeli army is planning further attacks on Hezbollah's infrastructure, with a focus on dismantling what it perceives as threats within Lebanese territory. The report highlights that dozens of Hezbollah members are reportedly trapped underground in the Jabal Ali al-Taher area of southern Lebanon, although specific details remain undisclosed.

Despite these aggressive military maneuvers, the Israeli government has exercised restraint in recent days. Channel 12 noted that some military operations proposed by the army have not been approved by the Israeli political leadership. This decision aims to avoid disrupting ongoing US-mediated negotiations with the Lebanese government.

The situation along the Lebanese front has grown increasingly tense, as Israeli military actions persist amid diplomatic efforts by the United States to foster dialogue between Israel and Lebanon. Nevertheless, Israel's military campaign, which commenced on March 2, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. Lebanese authorities report that the conflict has led to the deaths of 4,346 individuals, injured 12,301, and displaced over 1 million people.

Israel continues to hold positions in southern Lebanon, with occupation extending from decades ago and more recently from the 2023-2024 war. During the current offensive, Israeli forces have advanced more than 10 kilometers (approximately 6 miles) into Lebanese territory, further complicating the geopolitical landscape.
