Danish Political Party Seeks Ban on Meta AI Glasses Over Privacy, Consent Issues

Copenhagen: Citing privacy and consent issues, a Danish political party on Monday called for the AI-powered glasses of US tech firm Meta to be banned. Eva Flyvholm, the Red-Green Alliance's legal affairs spokesperson, told public broadcaster DR that the glasses should be prohibited because they allow users to discreetly film people in various situations without their knowledge or consent.

According to Anadolu Agency, Flyvholm stated that the glasses are contrary to the fundamental right to privacy. She emphasized the discomfort that such technology could cause, as people might be filmed without their consent. The party is advocating for amendments to current legislation to address these technological advancements.

Flyvholm highlighted the necessity of this discussion, expressing concerns over public spaces and private areas like changing rooms and swimming pools. She stressed the importance of obtaining consent before sharing any recordings on digital platforms. The Red-Green Alliance is pushing for legal measures to ensure privacy protection.

The party has also engaged with Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen regarding this issue. Wammen indicated that the government is planning to meet with the Danish Consumer Council to explore strategies for safeguarding citizens from these technological challenges. He acknowledged the intrusive nature of recording and sharing content without consent, understanding the public's concerns regarding privacy violations.
