Russian Intelligence Claims Western Plot to Accuse Moscow of Arming Latin American Gangs

Moscow: The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced on Monday that an intelligence agency from "a Western country" is plotting to accuse Moscow of supplying weapons to gangs in Latin America. The SVR stated that the agency, in collaboration with Ukraine, plans to allege Russia's involvement in the illegal supply of arms to drug cartels and organized crime groups in Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico.

According to Anadolu Agency, the SVR suggests that Russian-made weapons captured by Ukrainian forces in the ongoing conflict have been smuggled into these three countries to fabricate evidence of illicit arms transfers from Russia. The intelligence service claims that fake audio and video recordings, along with forged documents purportedly implicating Russian military personnel, are being prepared to support these accusations.

The SVR asserts that the goal of this campaign is to undermine Russia's relationships with Latin American nations and to persuade their governments to align with Western policies against Moscow. They described the operation as reminiscent of a "third-rate crime narcodrama," intended to damage Russia's standing in the region.

Furthermore, the SVR criticized the information war allegedly waged by Euro-Atlantic elites since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict, accusing them of promoting false narratives against Russia. However, the intelligence agency did not specify which Western country it believes is orchestrating this operation, nor did it provide evidence to substantiate its claims. The SVR also accused Western entities of previously employing "fabricated incidents" as part of their information strategies against Russia.
