Moscow: Another overnight drone attack on Moscow was described by Mayor Sergey Sobyanin as the largest in the past two years, with 620 drones targeting the capital since Monday evening. According to Anadolu Agency, Sobyanin reported on Russian social media platform Max that 180 drones were destroyed in the Moscow region from Monday evening to Tuesday morning at 5 am (0200 GMT). Emergency services are actively working at the sites where debris fell.
The previous largest attempted attack occurred on August 15-16, when 600 drones were reported to have targeted Moscow. The latest attack also resulted in damage in the Moscow region surrounding the capital. Governor Andrey Vorobyov mentioned that a drone struck a warehouse belonging to online retailer Wildberries near Atlant-Park in Bogorodsky district, leading to a fire that was contained. Two private homes were damaged, and several fires were reported elsewhere in the region. No casualties were reported, according to Vorobyov.
Wildberries' press service stated on Telegram that the attack caused minor damage to its logistics facility, with debris hitting the building's wall. The damage was quickly addressed, and the facility was evacuated according to safety regulations. No goods were damaged.
Moscow has faced several large-scale drone attacks in recent months, including an incident in July where more than 430 drones were intercepted in one night. On March 11, 2025, Sobyanin described an attack as the most intensive at that time, with 74 drones shot down on approach to Moscow and hundreds intercepted.
Ukraine has intensified drone strikes on Wildberries logistics facilities since mid-July, targeting several Russian regions. Since July 18, Ukrainian drones have focused on Wildberries logistics centers in Moscow, Samara, Leningrad, Krasnodar, Sverdlovsk, Ryazan, and Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014. Kyiv accuses the e-commerce retailer of being part of Russia's military supply chain, while the Kremlin and Wildberries assert that the facilities serve civilian purposes.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it downed 791 Ukrainian drones overnight across 15 regions, including Moscow, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea.
