Port-au-prince: The UN has denounced a brutal gang attack in Kenscoff, Haiti, which resulted in the deaths of at least 47 individuals, including 22 reportedly executed within a church compound.

According to Anadolu Agency, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric emphasized the dire security situation in Haiti, referring to the violence as 'horrendous' and highlighting the urgent necessity for heightened local and international security measures. Dujarric pointed to the 'ruthless gangs' that continue to instill fear in the outskirts of Port-au-Prince and called for immediate action to counter their activities.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged Haitian officials to bring those responsible to justice through newly established judicial units that have been set up with international assistance. Dujarric reiterated this call, emphasizing the need for accountability in the wake of such atrocities.

The UN Integrated Office in Haiti disclosed that, in the second quarter of 2026, violence across the nation resulted in 1,408 deaths and 656 injuries. Gang-related activities were responsible for more than half of these casualties between April and June, as reported by the UN office.

The agency has highlighted the critical importance of keeping the situation in Haiti on the global agenda and has called for the swift and comprehensive deployment of the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force. Carlos Ruiz Massieu, head of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti, stated, 'These figures show that the population continues to bear an unacceptable toll from violence.'
