Taiz: Yemen's Houthi group shelled a government judicial complex in the southwestern city of Taiz on Wednesday, marking the second attack on the complex within a month.

According to Anadolu Agency, the complex and surrounding areas were targeted with mortar shells, although no casualties were reported. Local sources suggest that the Houthis are continuing their pattern of targeting the judicial complex, civilian facilities, and residential neighborhoods in Taiz, posing ongoing threats to the lives of civilians.

There was no immediate response from the Houthis regarding the attack. Late last month, the same complex was targeted by the Houthis with mortar fire, yet again resulting in no casualties, as reported by government sources.

In early July, hostilities resumed between the Houthis and government-aligned forces in several provinces, including Marib in central Yemen, Al-Jawf in the north, and Al-Dhale and Taiz in the southwest. The conflict dates back to 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthis overran much of Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, leading to a prolonged war with Yemeni government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

The recent escalation in Yemen coincides with the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict in 2023. During this period, the Houthis have become more involved in regional hostilities, conducting missile attacks on Israel and Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea. The intensifying conflict in Yemen, along with the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, has raised concerns about a potential return to full-scale conflict in the already struggling Gulf nation.
