Ankara: The Latin patriarch of Jerusalem has raised a grave concern over the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, describing it as "a lawless land" due to ongoing aggression by Israeli settlers. This stark observation was made during a Catholic festival in Rimini, Italy, where Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa addressed the escalating violence in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Cardinal Pizzaballa emphasized the urgent need for diplomatic intervention from Western nations to curb the violence in the Middle East. He pointed out the persistent aggression by settlers and called for diplomatic efforts as the sole means to resolve the conflict, avoiding military force.

The Cardinal also highlighted the dire human situation in Gaza, labeling it as "very devastated." He reiterated the importance of a two-state solution, which he believes is essential for recognizing the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to their own lands.

Pizzaballa expressed hope for a future visit from the pope to the Holy Land, urging for preparations to ensure the trip's success. He warned against the dehumanizing effects of war and underscored the need to prevent war from dictating societal norms and values.
