Aston Villa Signs German Midfielder Leon Goretzka

Ankara: English Premier League club Aston Villa announced Thursday the signing of German midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer. The 31-year-old midfielder joined Villa following the expiration of his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the previous season.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aston Villa expressed their excitement over the acquisition of Goretzka, highlighting his experience and achievements. "Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Leon Goretzka," the club stated. The 73-cap German international, who has won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich, joins the club on a free transfer.

Goretzka's professional career began with his hometown club VfL Bochum before he moved to Schalke 04 in 2013. In 2018, he joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer, where he made 312 appearances, scored 51 goals, and provided 53 assists. Over the course of eight seasons with Bayern, Goretzka secured seven Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, and the 2020 Champions League.

On the international stage, Goretzka has represented Germany 73 times, including three appearances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His extensive experience and success at both club and international levels are expected to bring valuable expertise to Aston Villa.
