Ankara: The death toll from floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to 389, according to figures released by Nepal Police and reported by the Ratopati news outlet Thursday. The natural disaster has also left 466 individuals injured, highlighting the severe impact on the affected regions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Chitwan district has been the hardest hit, with 137 fatalities confirmed. Nawalparasi East follows closely, reporting 87 deaths. Other districts affected include Dhading, Gorkha, Nuwakot, Tanahun, Nawalparasi West, and Rasuwa, all of which have reported casualties.

Emergency response efforts are underway, with 8,348 police personnel deployed to the affected areas. These teams are tasked with conducting rescue and relief operations to assist those impacted by the disaster. However, challenges persist as eighteen police officers remain out of contact, complicating ongoing search and rescue missions for the missing.

The floods and mudslides originated on the Nepalese side of the border and also impacted the Gyirong Port border crossing in Gyirong County, China, early Wednesday morning. The situation underscores the need for efficient cross-border coordination in disaster response efforts.
