Ankara: Iran will target US economic interests if the maritime blockade against the country continues, a senior Iranian official warned Thursday. According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei stated on state broadcaster IRIB, "If the blockade continues, we will target US economic interests fully and with intensity and force." Rezaei mentioned that Iran had "broken the maritime blockade" during the ceasefire, managing to export between 70 million and 80 million barrels of oil. He further highlighted that Iranian oil sales had returned to their pre-sanctions level, and the nation had made significant progress in clearing floating stocks while establishing new export routes that are gradually expanding. Rezaei also addressed regional concerns, particularly developments in Lebanon, emphasizing that Beirut and its southern suburbs constitute a "red line" for Tehran. "No one has the right to move toward Beirut or its southern suburbs," he warned, adding that Iran is closely monitoring the situation with complete seriousness. Rezaei asserted that Israel "will be forced to withdraw from the occupied areas in Lebanon." The statements come after US President Donald Trump declared at the White House, "The strait is open. The Strait of Hormuz is open. We have control, and we have the blockade." This follows a mid-June agreement between Iran and the US, facilitated by Pakistani and Qatari mediation, which resulted in a 14-point memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad. The memorandum aimed to end hostilities, reopen the strait, lift a US naval blockade, and initiate a 60-day negotiation process. However, Tehran has accused the US of failing to implement crucial provisions of the memorandum, insisting that the strait will not fully reopen until Washington meets its commitments.
