Trkiye’s National Basketball Team Secures Historic Spot in FIBA 2027 World Cup

Ankara: Trkiye's Men's National Basketball Team emerged victorious against Iceland with a decisive 110-73 win in their second game of Group J in the FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers. According to Anadolu Agency, this victory marks Trkiye's eighth consecutive win, making them the first team to qualify for the World Cup. The match, held at Laugardalshöll Sports Center in Reykjavik, saw Trkiye take a strong 33-14 lead in the first quarter, with key contributions from captain Cedi Osman and Malachi Flynn. Trkiye's momentum continued through the second quarter, with Onuralp Bitim adding 15 points, resulting in a 60-37 lead at halftime. Maintaining their edge, the team entered the final quarter with an 80-56 advantage, ultimately securing the game with a 110-73 scoreline. This achievement marks Trkiye as the first team to earn a spot in the FIBA 2027 World Cup via the European Qualifiers. The national team completed the first round with a flawless 6-0 record and continued their success in round two, carry ing over their victories from the initial phase. Trkiye's performance in the qualifiers remains unmatched, as they stand as the only unbeaten team in the European Qualifiers. Following Poland's recent loss in Group K, Trkiye's national team is the sole undefeated contender. Looking ahead, Trkiye will play against Italy on November 26 in a World Cup qualifier and will host Iceland on November 29.
