Tehran: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that two oil tankers exploded after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning shipping companies against using routes deemed unauthorized by Tehran through this pivotal waterway.

According to Anadolu Agency, the IRGC issued a statement noting that the tankers had evacuated their crews, who were subsequently taken over by personnel associated with the US military to navigate what Tehran terms an 'illegal route.' The statement confirmed that the vessels 'hit mines, exploded and were brought to a halt,' and are currently on fire.

The IRGC refrained from revealing specific details about the tankers, such as their identification, flag status, precise location, or information about potential casualties. It emphasized that its naval forces had previously issued warnings to vessels about the risks of traversing the mined area.

Moreover, the IRGC warned of 'additional punitive measures' against shipping companies that permit their vessels to pass through this route instead of what Iran considers the authorized passage. The statement concluded by asserting that recent US military activities would not undermine Iran's authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
