Brandenburg: Perpetrators behind Tuesday's attempted attack on a power plant in Germany's Brandenburg state used homemade rockets fitted with copper wires designed to become entangled in overhead power lines and trigger a short circuit, local media reported Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the rockets were equipped with copper wires intended to catch on the overhead lines and cause a short circuit, as reported by German daily Welt. The devices were reportedly set to be ignited using analog clocks.

The unidentified perpetrators were at least partially successful, as some of the homemade rockets ignited while several others failed to do so, the report said. The attack reportedly knocked Block B of the Jaenschwalde power plant out of operation for several hours, although the facility was not completely shut down.

German media reported Tuesday that unidentified suspects had attempted to attack electrical infrastructure at the major Brandenburg power plant using explosive devices. Grid operator 50Hertz said unknown perpetrators damaged several transmission lines, briefly interrupting service. It added that all lines had since returned to operation and the public power supply was unaffected.

The Jaenschwalde facility is one of Germany's largest brown-coal power plants and is located in eastern Brandenburg near the Polish border.
