Tehran: Iran's response to any future US attacks will be 'asymmetric' and 'multi-layered,' as recent US actions have altered Tehran's security calculations and defense doctrine, First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref stated on Thursday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Aref emphasized in a post via US social media company X that the recent US actions against Iran have necessitated a change in Tehran's approach to defense. "From now on, our response will be asymmetric, multi-layered, and aimed at depriving the aggressor of security," Aref stated, also cautioning of potential economic repercussions for the US. He advised Americans to consider stockpiling gasoline and fuel, hinting at challenging economic times ahead for the US economy.
Aref refrained from detailing specific measures Tehran might adopt in retaliation to future US attacks, or how these could impact US fuel supplies and the broader economy. His comments come at a time of renewed direct confrontations between Iran and the US, alongside growing concerns over energy supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial channel for global energy shipments.
The latest tensions arose following a US strike on Iran's Larak Island on August 30, which ended a roughly month-long pause in direct hostilities. In response, Iran has launched missiles and drones targeting US military facilities in the region, including bases in Kuwait and the UAE. Tehran has also imposed restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, linking its reopening to US compliance with prior commitments.
Simultaneously, the US has ramped up economic pressure on Iran through its 'Operation Economic Outcast,' aiming at Iran's oil revenues and other financial resources, alongside ongoing military operations.
