Sanaa: Yemen's internationally recognized government declared on Monday its decision to reclaim the capital city, Sanaa, from the Houthi group. Deputy Defense Minister Major General Samir Al-Sabri announced on state-run Yemen TV that the government is determined to retake Sanaa, although specific details of the plan remain undisclosed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yemeni army spokesman Majid al-Nuzaili further emphasized the government's objective through a post on the US social media platform X. Al-Nuzaili stated, "From today, we declare that our goal is clear and unequivocal: to liberate Yemen from the grip of the terrorist Houthi militias and restore Sanaa as a capital for all Yemenis." He underscored the government's commitment to unity, extending an invitation to all Yemenis to join in the country's future without the threat of revenge or discrimination.

The announcement comes after a period of relative calm in Yemen since April 2022, following nearly 12 years of conflict between government forces, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthis. The latter seized control of Sanaa and significant portions of the country in 2014. However, the situation has become increasingly volatile since late 2023, as the Houthis have engaged in regional hostilities, including attacks on Israel and commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The recent surge in fighting has sparked concerns about a potential return to widespread conflict in Yemen.
