Yemen: Yemen's government-aligned forces announced on Tuesday that they had captured a Houthi commander, along with several men, in Yemen's southwestern Taiz province.

According to Anadolu Agency, the joint government forces stated that Houthi commander Abu Ali al-Adhari, one of the rapid intervention force commanders on the Al-Barh front, was captured. The statement highlighted that al-Adhari was captured following fierce clashes along with several of his men.

In a separate announcement, the forces reported conducting airstrikes targeting Houthi militia reinforcements in the Al-Kadha and Al-Barh sectors in western Taiz. The Houthis have not provided any immediate comments on these developments.

The region has experienced a relative lull since 2022 after nearly 12 years of conflict between government forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Iranian-backed Houthis, who took control of the capital Sana and large parts of the country in 2014. However, since late 2023, following the onset of the Gaza war, the Houthis have become increasingly involved in regional hostilities, launching attacks on Israel and commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The renewed fighting has raised concerns about a potential return to full-scale conflict in Yemen.
