Rize: Two people were rescued after a private plane flying from Batumi, Georgia, to Trkiye's Ordu-Giresun Airport suffered an engine failure and made an emergency landing in the Black Sea off the northeastern province of Rize. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the aircraft, unable to reach the intended airport, was forced to ditch approximately 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) off the coast of Pazar district.

According to Anadolu Agency, coast guard teams were dispatched after receiving an emergency call and successfully rescued the two individuals on board. The passengers, identified as Belgian nationals Vlasselaer Werner, 55, and Christian Peiffer, 69, were taken to Kackar State Hospital for medical checks. Both were reported to be in good condition, with their lives not in danger.

Rize Governor Ihsan Selim Baydas stated that authorities were alerted after contact was established with the distressed aircraft. "They could not approach the airport; they could not make it there. They had to land at sea. Our teams were immediately put on alert. Our Coast Guard teams reached the aircraft," he said. Baydas described the incident as "an accident that could have been much worse" and confirmed that there were no issues at the airport.

The Pazar District Governor's Office confirmed that the aircraft, identified as a training plane, had contacted the Rize-Artvin Airport control tower after experiencing the engine problem. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, with initial information indicating that the plane had to make an emergency landing at sea due to an engine malfunction.
