Berlin: The leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Germany have jointly condemned recent Iranian attacks and reaffirmed their support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as detailed in a joint declaration issued recently. The discussions between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz took place at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin during bin Zayed's state visit to Germany, focusing on economic cooperation and various strategic sectors.
According to Anadolu Agency, the UAE President emphasized the long-standing strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany, which has been built on over five decades of cooperation and shared interests. Bin Zayed expressed optimism about launching a 'strategic dialogue' with Germany, which is expected to create a new framework for their partnership. The UAE also announced its intention to invest 40 billion pounds ($46.8 billion) in Germany, targeting sectors such as industry, advanced technology, and energy, with 10 billion pounds allocated to Bavaria.
The joint declaration from the UAE and Germany unequivocally condemned Iranian attacks on regional states, including civilian infrastructure, as violations of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. The leaders urged Iran to respect international norms concerning the Strait of Hormuz and reiterated the necessity of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. They also addressed concerns regarding Iran's missile program and support for proxies.
On the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the leaders reiterated their commitment to a two-state solution, advocating for a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel based on pre-1967 borders. They called for the implementation of plans to end the conflict in Gaza and urged Israel and Hamas to abide by international agreements to foster peace.
Regarding Sudan, the leaders condemned attacks on civilians and called for a humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire. They emphasized the importance of establishing an independent civilian-led government in Sudan.
The leaders also discussed the situations in Lebanon, Syria, and Ukraine, expressing solidarity with Lebanon and support for peace in Syria and Ukraine. The strategic dialogue between the UAE and Germany is set to encompass regional and international security, trade, energy, and emerging technologies, among other fields.
Additionally, the leaders welcomed business agreements worth over 9.35 billion pounds between Emirati and German companies and agreed to deepen defense and security cooperation. Both sides expressed their intent to further develop bilateral relations and build on recent achievements.
