Muscat: Foreign ministers from Arab states are set to convene in Muscat, Oman, on Monday to formalize an agreement establishing a joint Iran-Oman shipping route through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, as announced by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting in Muscat will include representatives from countries whose territories were previously used in US-launched attacks against Iran. President Pezeshkian highlighted that Washington, having failed to achieve its military objectives, is now exerting economic pressure on Iran. He asserted that Iran remains resilient and will not succumb to these pressures.

Pezeshkian also addressed the ongoing US naval blockade on Iran, stating that the country's survival is not reliant on maritime routes. He emphasized that Iran plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz once the US lifts its blockade and ceases its attacks.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei noted that the Muscat gathering will involve eight Gulf-bordering states. The agenda includes regional issues and outcomes of Iranian-Omani discussions on securing safe routes for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Baqaei stressed that while Iran is committed to ensuring security in the region, the ongoing US naval blockade and military interventions compromise the safety of vessels.

Omani officials have yet to confirm the meeting, although Iranian plans for a new corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, under Iranian control, were recently mentioned by Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
