Damascus: US President Donald Trump said Saturday that the war with Iran could end 'very soon,' claiming Tehran is seeking to prolong the conflict to influence elections. Speaking after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin in Ireland, Trump said he expected the war to end shortly, while reiterating that Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump stated, 'I think very soon,' when asked about the conflict's end, suggesting it might conclude around election times. He accused Iran of trying to 'hold out as long as they can to complicate the election,' affirming that the US would prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.

Trump also addressed the tense situation in the Red Sea, mentioning that Yemen's Houthis had signaled their disinterest in a confrontation with the US. He noted that the group was permitting most ships to navigate the waterway, and praised the US's strong control over the area through a naval blockade, which intercepts approximately 25 boats daily.

He acknowledged the anticipated rise in oil prices due to the conflict but expressed confidence that prices would drop significantly once the war concludes. Furthermore, Trump defended his administration's actions in Gaza, dismissing accusations of facilitating genocide or Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and highlighted efforts to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.
