New delhi: India on Sunday reported that 13 crew members were rescued, while one remains missing after an attack on a vessel off the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack on the commercial vessel "MT El Gaia," highlighting that 14 Indian crew members were on board when the incident occurred, leaving one unaccounted for.

According to Anadolu Agency, India's Ministry of External Affairs expressed gratitude to Omani authorities for their assistance in the rescue operations and stated that the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation. The ministry emphasized the importance of restoring free and safe navigation through the international waterways in the region and called for immediate de-escalation of tensions.

Early Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz had been struck by an unidentified munition. The online statement from UKMTO did not provide details about the condition of the crew, the extent of the damage, or the vessel's potential environmental impact.

The maritime authority announced that an investigation is underway and advised vessels to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity. The critical Strait of Hormuz has seen reduced traffic levels since the start of the US-Iran conflict in February, with ongoing security risks and attacks on commercial vessels affecting the region.
