In an update issued Sunday, UKMTO confirmed that a fire had erupted on the vessel following the reported attack. Local authorities were present at the scene, assisting in evacuating crew members.

UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity as authorities work to investigate the incident. This event occurs amid a series of attacks on commercial shipping linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Several merchant vessels have recently been targeted in the northern Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and waters off Iraq.

Separately, Iranian authorities reported Sunday that one person was killed and three others were injured when a commercial vessel was struck near Hengam Island, off southern Iran's Qeshm Island. Iranian state media described this as a US attack.
