Trkiye Sweep Switzerland for First Win at CEV Men’s European Championship

Ankara: Trkiye defeated Switzerland 3-0 on Sunday to claim their first victory at the 2026 CEV Men's European Volleyball Championship. The Turkish national team won the Group D encounter at BT Arena in Cluj with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-19.

According to Anadolu Agency, the opening set was closely contested, with Trkiye building an early advantage before Switzerland fought back and moved three points ahead in the later stages. Trkiye recovered to level the score at 21-21 and avoided errors down the stretch to take the first set 25-23.

The Turkish side made a stronger start to the second set, opening with four consecutive points and establishing a 13-9 advantage. Trkiye extended the gap to five points at 20-15 and maintained control to win the set 25-19 and move 2-0 ahead.

Trkiye carried the momentum into the third set, racing to an 8-3 lead. Switzerland responded to cut the deficit to three points at 15-12, but Trkiye answered with three consecutive points before a Cafer Kirkit spike took them to 20-15. The Turkish side closed out the set 25-19 to complete the straight-sets victory in 87 minutes.

The result gave Trkiye their first victory after defeats to Germany and France in their opening two Group D matches, while Switzerland suffered their third consecutive loss. Trkiye will face hosts Romania in their fourth group match on Monday at 1700GMT.
