New delhi: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that US and Israeli attacks on Iran illustrate the unsustainability of economic resilience without security, emphasizing that strikes on economic and energy infrastructure can have repercussions beyond national borders.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian addressed the 18th BRICS Plus Summit, highlighting that targeting a country's economic, energy, and development infrastructure can lead to regional and global consequences. He noted that Iranians, including civilians, have suffered due to these attacks, which have also damaged infrastructure critical to the nation's development.

Pezeshkian urged BRICS to enhance its role in defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and upholding the prohibition on the use of force, citing the situations in Gaza and Lebanon as areas of concern. On economic cooperation, he advocated for expanding trade in national currencies and reinforcing the New Development Bank to bolster BRICS members' resilience against political and economic pressures.

The president also remarked that BRICS signifies a growing demand for a more balanced global order where no single power determines the fate of others. These comments were made on the final day of the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, where leaders of the bloc and partner countries gathered to discuss resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability.

The expanded 11-member BRICS group now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. On Saturday, the bloc adopted the New Delhi Declaration, committing to deepening cooperation with emerging markets, developing countries, and BRICS partner nations.

Pezeshkian's remarks come amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, which started in February and has seen attacks on Iranian military, energy, and economic infrastructure, along with Iran's retaliatory strikes in the region.
