Washington: The Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to Washington are set to meet on Tuesday in a bid to break the ongoing deadlock in US-brokered negotiations between the two countries. This significant meeting aims to address stalled discussions and find pathways to implement a framework agreement reached earlier this year.

According to Anadolu Agency, a Lebanese official source revealed that Lebanese Ambassador Nada Mouawad and Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter will engage in talks focusing on the developments in Lebanon and the mechanisms for implementing the framework agreement reached in June. The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, highlighted the importance of this meeting, which comes after the postponement of another round of negotiations originally planned for this week in Rome, now rescheduled for October.

The direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel commenced in April with a US-sponsored meeting in Washington. These talks have been pivotal in addressing critical issues such as ceasefire agreements, withdrawal procedures, border definitions, and the status of prisoners and missing persons. On June 26, both nations signed a US-sponsored framework deal in Washington, outlining a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese Army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.
