Zahedan: Sunni Baluch cleric Molavi Yousef Gorgij was killed by "Zionist mercenaries" outside his home in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan, Iranian broadcaster IRIB reported on Monday. The incident has raised concerns in the region, given the sensitive nature of interfaith and geopolitical tensions in the area.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state-run outlet provided no further details at the time, stating that additional information would be released later. The killing of Molavi Yousef Gorgij follows just five days after another cleric, Sunni Kurdish cleric Mamosta Mohammad Nezhati, was reportedly killed in the country's northwestern West Azerbaijan province. These incidents have heightened fears of escalating violence against religious leaders in Iran.
