Ankara: Russia said on Tuesday it is important that statements about an energy ceasefire with Ukraine, which US President Donald Trump announced a day prior, are 'translated into action.'

According to Anadolu Agency, in response to a question, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova emphasized during a briefing in Yekaterinburg that further comments on the topic were unnecessary as the Kremlin had already issued statements. Zakharova stressed the need for these declarations to be turned into concrete actions.

Zakharova highlighted that Russia has consistently honored ceasefires announced during the ongoing conflict, which began in February 2022, but contended that the same could not be said for Kyiv. She underscored the importance of backing words with actions.

On Monday, Trump stated on Truth Social that both Moscow and Kyiv agreed not to target each other's energy infrastructure. He attributed the rise in global diesel prices primarily to the ongoing conflict. The Kremlin expressed support for Trump's ceasefire idea, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledging it as a positive initiative while maintaining contact with the US on the matter.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an address on Monday, expressed Kyiv's readiness to de-escalate if the US could ensure Russia's genuine commitment to ending the conflict. Zelenskyy called for peace and the inclusion of energy, food routes, and critical infrastructure in discussions to halt the strikes, urging specifics from international partners.
