Schelle: A mosque in Belgium was defaced with an anti-Islam message for the second time in 10 days, broadcaster VRT reported Tuesday. The Tawfieq mosque in the town of Schelle was again targeted with the words "F*ck Islam" spray-painted across the width of its facade, according to Muslim Rights Watch Belgium (MRWB).
According to Anadolu Agency, MRWB Chairman Mohamed Amin Chaib expressed concerns over the repeated targeting of the mosque, highlighting the vulnerability of places of worship serving Muslim communities. He called for greater attention to their security and questioned whether authorities would have responded with the same urgency if another religious community had been targeted. "This can no longer be dismissed as mere vandalism," Chaib stated.
The Rupel police zone has confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine whether the same individual was responsible for both attacks. The mosque was first vandalized on September 5, when the same anti-Islam message and swastikas were painted on the building. Reports also indicated that dog excrement was left near the entrance.
Following the first incident, the mosque's administration filed a complaint against unknown perpetrators, prompting the police to launch an investigation. However, no suspects have been identified as of yet.
