Beirut: Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon and violations of a ceasefire agreement. During a phone call Tuesday, Berri emphasized that Israel's continued attacks and destruction of towns and villages in southern Lebanon required immediate action to halt the fighting, according to a statement from his office. He warned of 'dangerous consequences' from both regional and international inaction over the attacks.

According to Anadolu Agency, Berri and Araghchi also delved into discussions regarding developments in Lebanon and the broader region, as well as efforts to bolster regional security and stability. Their talks extended to examine developments in the Gulf and efforts to enhance cooperation between Iran and Arab and Muslim countries, with a specific focus on the Gulf Cooperation Council states.

Berri expressed gratitude to Iran for its support for Lebanon, mentioning that Tehran continues to see ending Israeli attacks on Lebanon as a top priority under its memorandum of understanding with the US. Lebanon has endured two deadly assaults since October 2023, leading to widespread destruction, significant damage to infrastructure and homes, and a worsening of the country's economic losses.

On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-sponsored framework agreement in Washington, which outlines a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces. Despite this agreement, Israel persists in launching attacks on southern Lebanon and continues to occupy areas in the south, with some territories held for decades and others seized during recent conflicts and military operations.
