Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the Middle East situation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a phone call Thursday, following a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, the call between Wang and Rubio occurred ahead of a scheduled meeting in Washington next week between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the call, Wang emphasized the importance of preparing for high-level exchanges in a spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit. He highlighted the need for both nations to strengthen communication, advance cooperation, manage differences, and respect each other's core interests. Wang expressed the importance of sending a positive message that China and the US are committed to advancing a constructive bilateral relationship of strategic stability, contributing to world peace and development.

Wang noted that bilateral ties have generally moved forward along the path of constructive strategic stability outlined by the two heads of state, meeting the expectations of the international community. In his discussions with Araghchi, Wang encouraged Iran and the United States to remain rational and exercise restraint, urging them to return swiftly to the framework deal reached in June. Additionally, Wang called for effective measures to open the Strait of Hormuz promptly.
