Moscow: Russia said Friday that it had demanded Japan withdraw US Typhon land-based missile systems deployed on its southwestern Kyushu island. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow sent a protest note to Japan on Sept. 3 regarding the deployment of the US-made systems, which are designed to launch medium- and shorter-range missiles.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zakharova emphasized that Russia had repeatedly voiced concerns to Tokyo, asserting that the presence of such weapons on Japanese soil jeopardizes Russian national security along with regional peace and stability. Russia stressed the inadmissibility of Japan's advanced deployment of the missile systems on its territory under any proposal, regardless of their duration and methods of placement.

Moscow has demanded the withdrawal of the missile systems from Japanese territory. Additionally, Zakharova urged Japan to fully acknowledge the outcomes of World War II, particularly the territorial provisions concerning the southern Kuril Islands, and to abandon what Moscow terms as a path of remilitarization.

On Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko addressed the matter with Japanese Ambassador Akira Muto in Moscow, urging Tokyo to seriously consider the protest note. Zakharova further mentioned that China had also recently sent a similar note to Japan, expressing concerns over Tokyo's 'remilitarization' policy, including the deployment of Typhon systems on the islands.
