Riyadh: Yemen's Houthi group has announced that it conducted missile and drone attacks on 'sensitive targets' in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, as well as a separate assault on the facilities of the oil company Saudi Aramco in the coastal city of Yanbu.

According to Anadolu Agency, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree communicated via the US social media platform X that the group executed two operations using a substantial number of ballistic and cruise missiles, along with drones. The first operation was directed at 'sensitive targets' in Riyadh, while the second was aimed at Saudi Aramco in Yanbu, located on the western coast.

There has not been any official response from Saudi authorities regarding these claims by the Houthis. However, earlier on Saturday, alerts from Saudi Civil Defense were issued in Riyadh for the first time in the ongoing wave of warnings, encompassing two alerts in the capital and two additional alerts in the Al-Kharj province. Authorities have yet to disclose the nature of the threat, and there have been no reports of casualties or damage linked to these warnings.

The warnings followed a statement from Saudi Civil Defense that the danger had subsided in seven cities and provinces, spanning from the southwest to the northwest of the kingdom, after a more extensive series of alerts. On Thursday, Saudi officials reported one fatality and two injuries due to falling debris from a Houthi drone intercepted and destroyed over the western city of Taif, which also caused damage to several buildings and vehicles.

In recent days, Saudi authorities have issued similar warnings across various cities and regions, subsequently declaring that the threats had been neutralized. On July 20, the Houthis announced what they termed a 'maritime blockade' on Saudi Arabia, later claiming responsibility for missile and drone attacks on Saudi-affiliated vessels and sites.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government against the Houthi group since March 2015. The Houthis have maintained control over Yemen's capital Sanaa and several regions since September 2014.
