Caracas: Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodriguez on Saturday oversaw the signing of an energy cooperation agreement between the state oil company PDVSA and TotalEnergies E and P New Ventures, a subsidiary of French energy giant TotalEnergies. The signing ceremony took place at Miraflores Palace in Caracas, with PDVSA President Hector Obregon and Francisco Javier Rielo, TotalEnergies' senior vice president for the Americas, in attendance.
According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement represents a continuation of Venezuela's efforts to attract foreign investment into its energy sector, following the approval of the Organic Hydrocarbons Law earlier this year. This law aims to create a stable legal framework to encourage new investments. However, specific details about the agreement have not been disclosed to the public.
This energy cooperation is part of a series of recent oil deals involving multinational companies and the Venezuelan government. These developments come after the United States removed former President Nicolas Maduro from office in January, paving the way for new international partnerships under Venezuela's current administration.
