El-obeid: At least two people were killed and 20 others injured Sunday in drone attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on residential neighborhoods in central Sudan, according to an independent medical group.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement that the RSF targeted several neighborhoods in El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, with guided drones from dawn until midday, causing civilian casualties and damage to property.

Calling the attacks a repetition of RSF violations against civilians, it warned they were endangering lives and worsening the city's humanitarian and health conditions. The group urged the RSF leadership to halt the attacks.

There was no immediate comment from the RSF as of 1650GMT. On Aug. 24, the UN said 1,100 civilians had been killed in drone attacks across Sudan between January and June this year.

Sudanese authorities and rights groups have accused the RSF of targeting civilian facilities, allegations the paramilitary group generally does not address directly while saying it works 'to protect civilians.' Sudan has been engulfed in war between the army and the RSF since April 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and around 13 million people displaced, according to UN and international estimates.
