New York:Iran is misinterpreting the US political system if it assumes that the upcoming November midterm elections will limit President Donald Trump's capacity to act against Tehran, stated Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rubio commented during the UN General Assembly in New York, suggesting that Iranian leaders might be under the false impression that a Democratic win in the elections would restrict the president's actions against them.

Rubio emphasized that Tehran might not grasp the separation of powers in the US, highlighting that while Congress holds a significant role, the president possesses considerable authority over national security issues. He noted President Trump's constitutional power as commander-in-chief gives him extensive capabilities regarding sanctions and military force.

These remarks followed President Trump's assertion that an agreement with Iran could be reached after the November 3 midterm elections. Trump suggested that Iranian leaders are waiting to see the election results before proceeding with any deal.

Rubio stressed that the election outcomes would not alter Trump's stance on Iran, as the nuclear issue is seen as a matter of national security rather than domestic politics. He pointed out that for nearly fifty years, US presidents and most countries have agreed that Iran should not acquire nuclear weapons, yet actions have fallen short.

Rubio concluded by stating that President Trump is willing to act despite the costs, as preventing a nuclear-armed Iran is crucial for future generations.
